Aqua Fresca de Jamaica
For 2 liters
Preparation time : 5 minutes
Ready to drink in 12 hours
2 liters of Spring water
2 TBS of dried hibiscus flowers
3 mint stems
2 tsp brown sugar
Place all ingredients in a pitcher and let it stand in the fridge for 12 hours. Stir on a regular basis. When ready to serve filter and pour into a glass pitcher or directly into individual glasses. It is best when served very cool or on ice.
Hibiscus flower can also be served mixed with ginger, cinnamon or lemongrass. You may also add few rose petals to the preparation. This drink is known to be very healthy, it also has other benefits such as high contents in calcium iron and vitamin C. It helps in case of water retention, fever and bad cholesterol . It has antioxidant and diuretic properties.
Caution : it is not advised to drink more than 1,5 liter per day as hibiscus water can be harmful to your liver.
